Who’s this “Hungry Chick,” anyhow??

Hi! I’m the Hungry Chick, also known as Suzanne Disheroon.  I’m a hard-working English professor by day, frequently buried under mountains of student writing, and instructional designer, technical writer, and resume creator extraordinaire by night. One of my favorite distractions (aside from Texas Rangers baseball, but that’s a whole other story!) is to try small, often family-owned, non-chain restaurants. I’m particularly partial to ethic cuisines like Asian (ie: Korean, Thai, Vietnamese), Latino (Cuban, Salvadorean, and TexMex, which admittedly isn’t really ethnic in Texas), Italian, and homestyle (read: Southern, soul food) cooking. I will try just about anything once (as long as it’s cooked. I’m not a fan of the raw, the tartar, or the sashimi).  As an old sociopath with whom I was once acquainted like to say:  “raw fish / meat is bait.  We don’t eat bait in Texas. We fish with it.”  (Of course, what said sociopath ate in private was anybody’s guess. Ha!)

So in this emerging blog space, you will find random reviews of local DFW area restaurants. My only criterion, at this point, is that the joints in question not be a part of a chain conglomerate organization. Suggestions are welcome, (constructive) criticism and disagreements as well, as long as it’s all in the spirit of civil discourse. (If you want to just be a mean ole’ troll, please just troll right on along to another blog, please and thank you).

All opinions are strictly my own, as well as the photographs (and you will soon see I’m no great shakes as a photographer, but maybe that will improve. . . ). I am in no way compensated for my reviews, so I have no reason not to call out the good, the bad, and the tasty.

Good eats, y’all!
